The Li Chun-Shan Foundation for Contemporary Paintings, Culture, and Education aims to fulfill Li Chun-Shan’s dying wishes to promote contemporary paintings and to encourage the creation of contemporary art. Accordingly, the Li Chun-Shan Foundation Visual Art Award, a biennial award, was established. The award can be won by any Taiwanese contemporary artist regardless of the art mediums used, the artist’s age, and the artist’s gender to encourage more art submissions. This year marks the 18th year of the award. To ensure fairness, every two years, the award organizer invites domestic and international individuals such as public and private museum directors, researchers, art critics, university professors with international exhibition curation experiences, experts, or scholars to serve as judges.

Similar to the previous Li Chun-Shan Foundation Visual Art Award (which received 105 entries), the 18th Li Chun-Shan Foundation Visual Art Award accepted all entries that were original, displayed unique features and contemporary spirit, and created by Chinese artists worldwide regardless of the art mediums used. The 104 entries received this time came from artists including those living in Taiwan, China, and Australia. After a careful selection process involving preliminary, secondary, and final reviews and discussions, artists Chang Yong-Da and Li Bing-Ao were awarded the Visual Art Award, each receiving a prize of NT$300,000 and a trophy.
