The Introduction of Artist Professor Emeritus Hung-Shu Hu is an internationally known artist and designer. He received a B.Sc. in Architecture from this University and an M.F.A. in Design from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He taught at the University of Iowa from 1968 until his retirement in 2003. Professor Hu donated the sculpture “Wu (Dancing)” to his Alma Mater in 1998. After his passing in 2015, Mrs. Hu granted University the permission to install “Wu (Dancing)” as a public art of the Biosciences and Technology Building. |
The Concept of Design The sculpture encapsulates the form of “dancing” – flows of movements – through four undulating ribbons that also signify cycles of cultivation and harvest in four seasons. The ribbons, made of stainless steel mirrors, fly through clouds into the sky reflecting seasonal changes of lights and shadows. The sculpture enlightens the minds and enriches the space. Blossoming and lively, a portal in the clouds, “Wu (Dancing)” brings aspirations for knowledge and excellence. |
