Sheng-Fen Chien, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Architecture & Creative Industries Design
Sheng-Fen Chien was trained in architecture and computational design. She has been an educator of architecture, digital media and interaction design for nearly two decades. She is an advocator of embodied learning (learning by doing and learning through making) and research through design (investigation through designing and prototyping). She established the NCKU Makers Gild (MAGI) where members work with analog and digital mediums, natural and engineered materials, through methods of conventional and digital crafts. She curated Making Matters (2015) and was a co-contributor of NCKU Biennale 2016 to showcase works of student designers/makers and reflect on the art emerged in the making. Beyond academia, Sheng-Fen Chien serves as an Executive Director of the Association of Humanitarian Architecture, Taiwan.
